Hello! My name is Gary Duquette, EHS graduate and former EHS Gay Straight Alliance member. I’ll start by saying I’m very excited to work with some new and old faces to make this documentary! The story of how I joined the GSA hasn’t been told to many, mainly because I was ashamed of it!…I had no problems with homosexuality, but I felt surrounded by peers who did and was pressured as such. A good friend of mine (the man presumably at the front of the room), Jayson Stewart, convinced me to go to one meeting. I almost wanted to sneak in to avoid my family in the school from seeing me. Once I was there though, I was surrounded by some of the most inviting characters I have ever met! Days went by, weeks, and eventually years; today I don’t regret it one bit! So, why the rant Gary?! Simple! That’s why this doc has to be made: To inspire- to get people out of their comfort zones; to let them to see into YOUR world. A world where, when looked at from the outside is intimidating, but when you delve into it turns into something nothing short of beauty.
This Doc will focus on you as students standing up for what is right. How? Well by telling (and showing) how you support LGBTQ rights everywhere- through visuals of you building banners, practicing your pride event cheer, and even something as simple as sitting in a room and eating lunch together.
SO! Time for the meat and potatoes- This is a pre-interview, which will help me gauge responses and formulate questions more suited to your answers and the doc overall. When answering doc questions it’s important to think of them almost like a test question- include the question in the response (for editing). If a question invokes a simple one line answer that’s great! Don’t struggle to fake a answer. Come the day of the interviews the questions will be made in a way that the answers will be second nature to you.
In advance, THANK YOU!
